Yo-kai Watch 4 delayed to June 20th, latest website update (skill trees, Stopwatching, Konkatsu, more)

Bad news for fans of the Yo-kai Watch series: Level-5 have announced that Yo-kai Watch 4 has been delayed once more. Fortunately, the delay isn’t that big a deal this time around, as the game is now releasing on June 20th instead… barely two weeks.

Also, the official website was updated, sharing some more details and pictures for the game.

Yo-kai Watch 4 – About

This month, we get a few more pictures of Keita / Nate’s world, with the Springdale everyone knows and love… except that the town now looks quite impressive in HD! Also, it’s been confirmed that Hailey Anne Thomas and USApyon appear in the game, though it doesn’t look like the former is playable this time around…

We also get some more pictures of Natsume’s world, as well as another confirmation that both Keisuke (Natsume’s brother) and Ayame are in the game (though this was rather obvious).

A few more Yo-kai for that world have also been revealed:

  • Kyushii (Lightside)
  • Zukkyushii (Shadowside)
  • Hareonna (Lightside)
  • Ameonna (Shadowside)
  • Ungaikyuu (Lightside and Shadowside)
  • Hinoshin (Lightside and Shadowside)

Finally, the website update allows us to get a better look at Shin’s world, with two new characters revealed:

  • Itsuki (who has quite the imposing mansion!)
  • Tae

Of course, the website update also covers the Yo-kai world, where many strange buildings can be found, and where Yo-kai roam the streets. There’s also a strange underground, and of course, Lord Enma’s Palace is there. It’s where the ruler of the Yo-kai world resides… but it turns out that the current ruler is Kaira, not Lord Enma!

But that’s not all: the website shares a few details about the beginning of the story. Yo-kai Watch 4 begins with Keita / Nate lazying around in his room, in summer, but then, his mother asks him to go run some errands. Once he’s done, he notices that Whisper is behaving strangely… that’s because he’s being possessed by Hungramps! Keita / Nate then sends Jibanyan to fight the Yo-kai and free his friend from the Yo-kai’s influence.

After that, Keita / Nate goes out, and ends up meeting Fumi-chan / Katie… but it turns out it was Mimikin posing as her!

Whisper then looks at his trusty Yo-kai Pad, and sees that lots of Yo-kai are gathering at Mt Wildwood in search of treasure. Keita / Nate ends up finding a mysterious key, that opens a door to another world… Natsume’s!

Yo-kai Watch 4 – Gameplay

Yo-kai Watch 4 has 6 playable characters, and you can strengthen them thanks to their Skill Trees… or rather, it’s their Yo-kai Watch that you strengthen, not the characters themselves.

Of course, you’re free to choose how each character / Yo-kai Watch will grow by selecting which branches to focus on. You will need to make sure your Yo-kai Watches are well powered up if you want to get the upper hand in battles!

Once you have selected a character / Yo-kai Watch to strengthen, you have to select the branch to power up (Japanese names):

  • Kokoro (Heart)
  • Waza (Technique)
  • Kara (Body)
  • You (Bewitching)
  • Tomo (Friend)
  • Ai (Love)

It’s up to you to decide whether to focus on specific branches, or instead power them up equally for all-rounder characters.

The website was also updated with the details about the weapons and the special moves of the playable characters, revealed in CoroCoro magazine. We’re not going to write the same thing again, so we invite you to check out this post if you haven’t already!

Here’s some pictures:

A brand new feature is also revealed: Stopwatching. Before battle, and during battle, you can check out details about your opponents and your allies . It’s a really handy feature that can also be used to switch party members, and even use items!

There’s 4 main functions:

  • Basic informations: allows you to see stats, tribes, attributes, etc.);
  • Use items;
  • Place target pin: works just like in previous Yo-kai Watch games. You place a pin on the opponent you want your party to focus on;
  • Switch party members with reserve members;

As you can imagine, learning how to use Stopwatching efficiently is a key factor during battles, one that will often be the difference between victory and defeat.

As mentioned previously, befriending Yo-kai works differently in Yo-kai Watch 4. This time around, it’s done via a gameplay system known as Konkatsu, with a character called Konsaru. It works that way: during battle, you can collect the “soul” of enemy Yo-kai, and then, you bring that “soul” to Konsaru (who seems to have his own bar, in Gachaland) to trade for some Yo-kai… or rather, their Ark.

There’s 4 different “services” offered by Konsaru:

  • Matching: you can trade the souls collected for some Yo-kai. Even if there’s two of the same Yo-kai, their nicknames and levels may be different. If you meet the right conditions, you can trade for whichever Yo-kai you want from the list;
  • Training: you can use the souls collected to train Yo-kai, and make them stronger;
  • Soubi Custom: you can use the souls collected to craft or strengthen some weapons to be used by the 6 Watchers
  • Souls list: allows you to check out the various souls collected.

As revealed in CoroCoro magazine, each world has its own Crank-a-kai, which means there’s 4 of them in total in the game. Like in previous games, you can use coins obtained from various places (such as treasure chests) to use the Crank-a-Kai and get Yo-kai (including rare ones) and various other rewards.

Once you’ve found a Crank-a-Kai, it will automatically appears in Gachaland, so that you don’t have to travel to each world if you want to use one (pretty handy if you want to use several of them at once!). Of course, you can do so at any time! What’s more, each time you use a Crank-a-Kai, you get Gacha Points that you can then trade for various prizes.

Finally, Level-5 have announced that if you tap the Yo-kai Ark toy distributed in theatres, you can unlock a special item in-game: the Kokusou Nekotama.

Yo-kai Watch 4 (Switch) comes out on June 20th in Japan. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!
