Unseen64: a look at another cancelled Dino Crisis game on GameBoy Color

Released on 1999 on the original PlayStation, Dino Crisis is a survivor-horror game beloved by many players. Capcom also had plans for a portable version on the GameBoy Color, that was being developed by M4 (a British studio, which also worked on Tasmanian Devil: Munching Madness and Jerry McGrath Supercross 2000). It would have been a top-down adventure, exclusive to the GameBoy Color (without any backward compatibility with the original GameBoy).

But apparently, it is not the only Dino Crisis game that was supposed to come out on GameBoy Color. Fluid Studios (Top Gun: Firestorm on GameBoy and Army Men: Air Combat on GameBoy / Nintendo 64) was reportedly working on another one between late 1999/early 2000. It would have been an adventure game with static backgrounds and text, 7 maps with 100 rooms in total, 4 characters (Regina, Rick, Gail and Dr Kirk) and 5 types of dinosaurs (including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor and Pteranodon).

Unfortunately, we don’t quite know why those games were cancelled, but since Capcom also cancelled the GameBoy Color version of Resident Evil, it may be that the company did not think those games would uphold the popularity of the originals.

Here’s some pictures of that game:
