UK: video games sales for Week 27, 2016 (July 4th – July 10th)

During Week 26, only one game came out in the United Kingdom: the Wii U version of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It landed at #10 which doesn’t seem too bad at first glance.. until you see the other versions outsold it even during their second week on the market. Naturally, it was the best-selling game on Wii U during that week.

As usual, we do not expect this title to hang around in the Top 40 very long, just like the Nintendo 3DS version. This one lost 14 places at once this week, and is now at #38… It’s not even the best-selling game on Nintendo 3DS: Tomodachi Life stole its spot, as explained below.

Next, we have the Wii U version of Minecraft, which lost 8 places and is now at #23. It’s still outselling the other versions, but there’s no doubt it will not last very long. On the other hand, the Wii U version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics actually went up in the chart, and is now at #26. As the actual Olympics are starting soon, and the summer holidays are in full swing, we can expect decent sales for that game in the next few weeks.

As for Tomodachi Life, it seems to be benefiting a lot from the start of the Summer holidays: it went straight from #29 to #28 this week. It will be interesting to see if this is meant to last (at least until the end of the Summer holidays), or if it’s only temporary.
