[Japan] The Super Mario Bros. Movie: sales data for the home video release [Update: Week 86]

In the weeks and months following the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in Japan, TOHO (the Japanese distributor) shared regular updates about its box office performance.

Starting today (September 6th), the Super Mario Bros. Movie is available on Blu-Ray (and DVD), and thanks to Oricon, we have some sales data (daily and weekly) for that home video release.

This post will be updated on a regular basis with all relevant data, so keep checking back!

Total sales

The various versions of the Super Mario Bros. Movie have sold:

• DVD: 33,106 units sold (as of April 27th 2025)
• Blu-Ray: 3,172 units sold (as of January 12th 2025)

As for the stand-alone Blu-Ray, it finally resurfaced: it ranked #18 in the Anime Blu-Ray ranking, selling 104 units during its 9th week, which brings total sales to 1,001 units. This version had sold 496 units by May 12th, which means it sold 505 units between then and June 23rd.

Also, Oricon shared the report for the first half of the year, and revealed that the Blu-Ray + DVD combo sold 18,046 units during that timeframe (though only up to June 9th, as it was seemingly discontinued altogether). This brings total sales for this version to 76,210 units, which means it sold 198 units between April 14th to June 9th.

Total sales for all versions combined now stand at 95,398 units.
