Super Mario Odyssey: all the details, pictures, GIFs, videos from the official Twitter accounts (August 14th – September 11th)

Just like Splatoon 2 and ARMS, Nintendo started sharing regular updates for Super Mario Odyssey on Twitter (via the brand new Super Mario account), with details, pictures, GIFs, videos, and more. And just like with Splatoon 2 and ARMS, we’re going to round them all in this post, for your viewing convenience!

NB: only the details, pictures, GIFs, and videos for the period going from August 14th to September 11th can be found on this page. For the latest updates, make sure to check out this post instead!

September 8th

Today, Nintendo shared a new screenshot for the game, showing the inhabitants of Volbonans, who live near Mount Volbono in the Luncheon Kingdom. They basically look like forks with a chef hat, so it’s no real wonder they can cook like actual (human) chefs!

September 7th

Today, Nintendo shared another video clip for Super Mario Odyssey, this time showcasing another basic action: the Crouch Jump. You can use it by first crouching, and then using the Jump button. This allows you to jump much higher than with regular jumps, and you can even chain them if you want.

September 6th

Today, Nintendo shared an artwork for Super Mario Odyssey, showing Peach in her beautiful wedding dress:

September 5th

Today, Nintendo shared a new video clip for Super Mario Odyssey, showcasing an advanced technique: the Ground Pound Jump. As the name (sort of) implies, it involves jumping right after doing a Ground Pound. Thanks to the momentum, Mario can reach higher places than with a regular jump!

September 4th

Today, Nintendo share another screenshot for the game, showcasing a new enemy called Tomapon, found in Mount Volbono (in the Luncheon Kingdom). When you step on them, the magma found inside their body spreads, making this enemy particularly tricky to deal with. When you’re playing as a Captured Bubble, you need to use those enemies to move around the ground, as touching it make you turn back to “regular” Mario. But the magma from Tomapon is safe!

September 1st

Today is September 1st, which means it’s time for the latest Super Mario Odyssey wallpaper and calendar!

Also, Nintendo also shared a GIF of 8-Bit Mario wearing the explorer costume!

August 31st

Today, Nintendo shared a video clip of another staple move of 3D Mario games: the Ground Pound. With it, you can defeat enemies (such as a tower of goombas), or find secrets in the world!

August 30th

Today, Nintendo shared a screenshot of Spinies, recurring enemies that first appeared in the original Super Smash Bros.. Naturally, they’re back in Super Mario Odyssey, and they’re as tricky and dangerous as ever!

August 29th

Today, Nintendo shared a video clip showcasing another basic action: Rolling. By using slopes, you can start rolling, which is great when you want to move around quickly. If you shake the Joy-Con, you can roll even faster!

August 28th

Today, Nintendo shared another screenshot for Super Mario Odyssey, showing Peach’s wedding dress and veil.

August 25th

Today, Nintendo shared a screenshot showing a coule of Steam Gardeners, who live in the Steam Gardens (located in the Wooded Kingdom). They love plans so much they’re actually growing flowers on their heads. Oh, and look at their water can!

August 24th

Today, Nintendo shared an artwork and a video clip for the Sherm, tank-like enemies found in New Donk City. As you can expect, they become Captured Sherm when Mario captures them, and they allow him to move around as in a tank, shooting at enemies with the cannon. If you want increased firepower, look for a Sherm to capture!

August 23rd

Today, Nintendo shared a video clip of Mario performing another staple technique of 3D Mario game… the Dive! Basically, by holding ZL and then pressing Y after jumping, Mario can “dive” forward. This allows you to jump a bit further than regular jump, but also attack enemies on the way. You can also use this technique to jump sideways!

August 22nd

Today, Nintendo shared a screenshot of Mario wearing the Suit outfit, that you can buy in New Donk City. The hat has a nice blue ribbon, while the suit itself has a blue button.

August 21st

Today, Nintendo shared a video clip showing another staple of 3D Mario game: the Long Jump (also known as Leap). It allows you to jump further than regular jumps, which is required to reach certain places… or simply to move faster than by simply running!

August 18th

Today, Nintendo shared a screenshot that shows the clerks of the Crazy Cap stores in the Tostarena region. That’s right: the clerks are Tostarenans, who seem to be pretty reluctant to part with their maracas… so much that they still have them in hand while working!

August 17th

Today, Nintendo a screenshot for what could be an antenna or a lightning rod, which is found on The Odyssey. Whatever it is, Mario can climb on it, and use it to get on the roof of the ship!

August 16th

Today, Nintendo shared an artwork for Uproots, enemies found in the Wooded Kingdom, and more precisely their Captured variant. When Mario captures one, he can reach pretty high places using their extendable legs. This can be used to reach platforms that are too high for him, but also hit blocks super fast!

August 15th

Today, Nintendo shared a new screenshot for Super Mario Odyssey, showing a couple of Tostarenans: the inhabitants of Tostarena, found in the Sand Kingdom. They may look a bit scary at first, but don’t be fooled by their appearance: they’re actually pretty nice people!

August 14th

Today, Nintendo shared a video clip showcasing one of the basic actions of Super Mario Odyssey: crouching. This can be used either to dodge enemy attacks, but also enter small spaces for example. The best part is that you can crouch and walk at the same time, which is pretty handy!

August 11th

Today is Mountain Day in Japan, and to celebrate, Nintendo shared a picture of Mario going hiking in the Wooded Kingdom. He’s wearing the appropriate clothes too, complete with a nice backpack!
