Super Mario Odyssey: all the details, pictures, GIFs, videos from the official Twitter accounts (June 20th – 23rd)

Just like Splatoon 2 and ARMS, Nintendo started sharing regular updates for Super Mario Odyssey on Twitter (via the brand new Super Mario account), with details, pictures, GIFs, videos, and more. And just like with Splatoon 2 and ARMS, we’re going to round them all in this post, for your viewing convenience!

NB: only the details, pictures, GIFs, and videos for June 20th to June 23rd can be found on this page. If you’re looking for the latest, click here! Also, this post gathers content from both the English and Japanese accounts, so you can be sure there isn’t a single picture of video you’re missing!

June 23rd (2)

Today, Nintendo shared the following:

  • two screenshots showing the map, that you can open by pressing the – button. The map shows the area you’re in, with markers indicating your current position and your destination. If you select a checkpoint flag, Mario transforms into a hat and literally flies there. Fun fact: the map is meant to look like a guide for tourists, and includes details about the Kingdom you’re currently exploring.

Today, Nintendo shared the following:

  • two screenshots of the checkpoint flags, that are found through the various “levels” of Super Mario Odyssey. Naturally, it’s recommend it to go touch it right away if you ever find one. Also, it turns out there’s a checkpoint flag on The Odyssey itself!

June 22nd

Today and yesterday, Nintendo shared the following:

  • another screenshot of The Odyssey, this time showing the door. You will notice there’s no handle… because you need to use Cappy to open it!
  • a screenshot of a place known as “Kaburon” in Japanese. That place is known for its formality, and its respect of traditions. The twon’s architecture is pretty elaborate, not to mention a tower seemingly wearing a giant hat. The black and white of the town is quite striking!
  • a screenshot of the interior of The Odyssey… which is surprisingly chic, due to the antique furniture from Kaburon. There’s even a closet in there, allowing you to swap costumes at any time. You can also decorate it with souvenirs from each Kingdom.

June 21st

Today, Nintendo shared some more details about The Odyssey. It’s equipped with a powerful spotlight, powered by the Power Moons, which illuminates the surrounding area. It allows Mario to fly during the night in a perfectly safe way!

Over the past few days, Nintendo shared a ton of things:

Screenshots / artworks

  • the main artwork of Super Mario Odyssey;
  • an artwork of Cappy;
  • a screenshot of Mario throwing Cappy at a Goomba to control it: that’s called Capture!
  • an artwork of a Captured Goomba;
  • a screenshot of Bowser wearing his wedding suit, getting ready for his wedding with Peach;
  • a screenshot of Peach wearing a wedding dress, and not really looking forward to marrying Bowser…
  • a screenshot of Power Moons: the new collectibles found in Super Mario Odyssey (replacing the Stars from previous Mario games). You unlock new Kingdoms by collecting them;
  • a screenshot of The Odyssey, that Mario uses to travel to other Kingdoms. It’s totally not shaped like a hat. Nope.
  • a screenshot of the E3 2017 demo for Super Mario Odyssey, where two Kingdoms were playable: the Sand Kingdom, and the Metro Kingdom;
  • 5 screenshots of the Metro Kingdom, where New Donk City can be found, along with the original Crazy Cap store;
  • 4 screenshots of Tostarena, the Sand Kingdom. For some reason, you can find a desert and… plenty of ice in that Kingdom. Something is definitely off…
  • a screenshot of a 2D segment. When Mario enters a pipe, the camera shifts to a 2D perspective, and the music get all 8-bit too!
  • a screenshot of the inside of a Crazy Cap shop, found in pretty much any Kingdom. Despite the name, you can buy various types of outfits in there, not just caps, using the in-game coins;
  • a screenshot for Mario rider a scooter in New Donkey City. You get to feel realistic vibrations thanks to HD Rumble;
  • a screenshot of the Builder Outfit and the Builder Helmet (from Super Mario Maker), available to buy from the Metro Kingdom;
  • a screenshot of Pauline, the Mayor of New Donk City. She’s gone from young lady to save to world-renown Mayor of a metropolis… that’s quite the promotion! She is comitted to peace, which is why she has strong support from her citizens;
  • a screenshot of the Broodals, who seem to be the Super Mario Odyssey equivalent of the Koopalings;
  • a screenshot of a Heart (restores your health) and one of a Life-Up Heart (increases your maximum life);
  • 2 screenshots of the Testarona, showcasing the traditional outfit of that region. As you can imagine, the Sombrero and the Poncho offer incredible breathability, which is a must in such a hot region;
  • another screenshot of The Odyssey, which is made of rugged aluminium. The two-tone colour scheme definitely reminds us of Mario and Cappy;
  • a screenshot of a mysterious sail, that grows with the energy of Power Moons. It allows The Odyssey to fly even further, and reach new Kingdoms;
  • an artwork of a Captured Chain Chomp;
  • a screenshot of the Dinosaur Kingdom (not official name);
  • 2 screenshots of the Explorer outfit, which can be bought in the Wooded Kingdom;
  • a screenshot of the “Steam Garden” (English name TBC), found in the Wooded Kingdom;
  • a screenshot of co-op;
  • a screenshot of the stage where Pauline is singing her ultimate hit: Jump Up, Super Star!. Yes, she’s both Mayor and a gifted singer!
  • a screenshot of Builder Mario in a 2D segment;
  • 3 screenshots of Testarona;
  • a map of the world, with all the various Kingdoms;
  • 3 screenshots of The Odyssey, and the Power Moons, powering up the ship;
  • a key artwork of Mario and Cappy.

Video / Clips

  • a video clip of Mario doing a Spin Throw, which is done by shaking the Joy-Con horizontally. Great to get rid of enemies if you end up surrounded!

  • a video clip of Mario doing a Cap Throw. If you press Y after one, Cappy spins in place for a while, which can be done to destroy crates, hit blocks, or jump on Cappy;

  • a video clip of Mecha Wiggler, most definitely the most impressive version of the iconic Mario enemy/character

  • a video clip of co-op

  • a video clip of a 2D segment, in the Desert Kingdom

  • a video clip of a Cap Throw

  • a video clip of a Cap Throw. If you shake the Joy-Cons downwards, you can make the hat roll on the ground!

  • a video clip of Mario capturing a Goomba, before making a tower of Goombas because… well, who needs REASONS to make a tower of Goombas?!
