PokéNews (May 7): Pokémon Detective Pikachu / Game Freak

Today’s Pokémon news: various tidbits for Pokémon Detective Pikachu, but also…

  • Game Freak
  • Pokémon no Uchi Atsumaru?!

Pokémon Detective Pikachu

Pokémon Detective Pikachu opens on May 10th in most countries around the world, but in Japan, it opened last week (on May 3rd to be precise). And it looks like it’s off to a fairly solid debut: it was the 3rd most successful movie in Japan during the past weekend (May 4th and May 5th, which was right during the Golden Week), behind the latest Detective Conan / Case Closed movie and Avengers: Endgame.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu was shown on 417 screens all around the countries, and no less than 347 000 people went to see it during the weekend, generating 457 million Yen in revenue. During the first 4 days, a total of 676 000 tickets were sold, with revenue reaching 984 million Yen. Based on this successful start, it looks like the movie could end up generating no less than 2.5 billion Yen in Japan alone.
