PokéNews (May 20): Pokémon Sword and Shield / UTGP 2019

Today’s Pokémon news: some minor news for Pokémon Sword and Shield, but also…

  • UTGP 2019
  • Pokémon GO
  • Pokémon Sun and Moon (anime)
  • Pokémon merchandise
  • Pokémon Kids TV

Pokémon Sword and Shield

It’s been quite a while since we last heard about Pokémon Sword and Shield, but it looks like we’re finally about to get some news. It has been announced that the next issue of CoroCoro Ichiban (different from the “usual” CoroCoro magazine) will have the latest news on the game. However, it’s not clear whether the magazine will have anything new not revealed at E3. The latest issue of the magazine is to be released on June 21st in Japan.

Speaking of Pokémon Sword and Shield, it has been announced that the Grand Winner of the UTGP 2019 (Uniqlo’s Global T-Shirt Design Competition) will be added to the game. This is pretty interesting, because this confirms that trainer customisation is back in this game, though it’s not clear what kind of options are back, and if any have been added. At the very least, we can expect the same level of customisation as Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Pokémon Sword and Shield (Switch) comes out later this year worldwide.

UTGP 2019

Uniqlo have revealed the winning designs for their UT Grand Prix 2019 competition, which was Pokémon-themed this year. As mentioned above, the winning entry will be added to Pokémon Sword and Shield, but will also be released as an actual t-shirt in Uniqlo stores (and website) across the world along with all the other winners.

Here’s pictures of the various t-shirts:

Pokémon GO

Thanks to the new Lure Modules, you can get Leafon and Glacean if you evolve Eevee near the Mossy and Glacial Lure Modules respectively. However, you can use the following nickname to force the evolution even without the Lure Modules:

  • Leafon: Linnea
  • Glaceon: Rea

If you’re wondering where those names come from, they’re actually those of the two trainers with Leafon and Glaceon in Pokémon Sun and Moon. By the way, this trick can only be used once.

Also, Shellos can now be found only in specific regions:

  • West of 0.0000° longitude = West Sea Shellos
  • East of 0.0000° longitude = East Sea Shellos
