Pokémon on Virtual Console: each language sold separately, EU pricing, trailer

Pokémon logoOn February 27th, the Pokémon series will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. As part of the celebration, Pokémon Red / Green / Blue / Yellow will be released on the Virtual Console service of the Nintendo 3DS. Many fans wondered how Nintendo would deal with the different languages, since the original cartridges only includes one language (depending on your region/country).

It turns out that each language will be sold separately, as Nintendo didn’t try / want / manage to include all languages in a single ROM (which would have required considerable work). Here’s the various languages that will be available:

  • English (Europe / North America)
  • French (Europe / North America)
  • Spanish (Europe / North America)
  • Italian (Europe)
  • German (Europe)
  • Japanese (Japan)

In other words, make sure you picked up the right language before buying. Unfortunately for fans who wanted to try out the various languages: they will have to pay for that. Of course, if you’re planning to buy more than one version, you’re free to pick up different languages for each of them, as long as they’re available in your region.

We also have the pricing for Pokémon Red / Blue / Yellow in Europe: 9.99€ / £8.99 / AU$13
