Pokémon GO news (April 6): Earth Day Cleanup / AR Photo Contest

Today’s Pokémon GO news: an Earth Day Cleanup event taking place on April 22nd on Earth Day, and an AR Photo Contest in Japan!

Pokémon GO – Earth Day Cleanup

Earlier this week, Niantic announced yet another event for Pokémon GO. This one will take place on April 22nd, which isn’t just any other day: it happens to be Earth Day. Niantic has partnered with Mission Blue and Playmob, as well as various local NGOs, to host cleanup events around the world.

The thing is, the more people take part in those cleanup events, the better the rewards unlocked for all players as a result.

Here’s the list of rewards:

  • 1,500 players cleaning up trash: Unlock 2x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokémon
  • 3,000 players cleaning up trash: Unlock 3x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokémon

Niantic specifies that the rewards will be released within a 48 hour window from the start of Earth Day. Also, Niantic and The Pokémon Company will be making a financial contribution to Mission Blue.

Pokémon GO – AR Photo Contest

Earlier today, an AR Photo Contest for Pokémon GO was announced. It will take place during the “Slowpoke Paradise in Kagawa” event, in the Kagawa Prefecture (in Japan). During this event, Slowpoke will spawn in large numbers, which is perfect as players taking part in the contest have to take an AR picture of Slowpoke! Entries have to be sent via Twitter and Instagram, and of course, only pictures taken in Kagawa will be eligible.

Also, during the “Slowpoke Paradise in Kagawa” event, a temporary Pokémon Center store will be set up at the JR Takamatsu Station, allowing fans to purchase some Slopoke related merchandise.
