Nintendo Switch: more ways to add friends coming soon

If you already have your Nintendo Switch, or if you read that post, then you know that the infamous friend codes are back. It’s not the only way to add friends (you can do so by linking your Nintendo Account, and then have friends in Super Mario Run and Miitomo appear as suggested friends to invite), but it’s still a major step back compared to the Wii U (which was completely devoid of them).

In a statement sent to Polygon, Nintendo explained that more ways to add friends on your Nintendo Switch would be added in the future:

  • via Nintendo Network ID, with friend requests to send to friends associated with that ID
  • some games will have an in-game interface to send friend requests

Right now, you can add friends that way:

  • via the Friend Codes
  • you can send a friend request to players you’ve played with recently
  • you can send a friend request to other players via local wireless

Long story short: right now, Friends Codes are the only way to add someone as a friend directly on Nintendo Switch via the internet, without using any other service or game. But more ways to add friends are coming soon… let’s just hope we will not have to wait too long for them!
