Nintendo Network ID: account registration appears on official Call of Duty website

Back when Nintendo was revealing the various features of the Wii U, prior to its launch, the company talked about its account system (the Nintendo Network ID). They explained that it would be used to link your ID to network services from third-party companies, and from the looks of it, Activision is one of them.

The official Call of Duty website (callofduty.com) was recently updated, and now, users can link their existing account to a Nintendo Network ID. Here’s a screencap from the account manager page:

This addition is quite intriguing, because last year, the Call of Duty series skipped the Wii U altogether. Does that mean the 2015 entry will get a Wii U release, or is that simply Activision implementing the Nintendo Network ID linking into its account system? If yes, why doing it now?
