Media Create: some comments about Week 14 in Japan

Last week, over 817 000 games were sold in Japan, which is 63.50% of Week 13. This noticeable drop is mainly due to the high amout of popular releases during Week 13. Those still kept on selling during Week 14, and it’s for that reason that the ratio of new software sales to total software sales dropped from 69.55% to 40.29%.

Media Create explains that sales of “old” games (aka: games that came out before Week 14) actually led the whole market, as their sales increased to 124.72% of last week.

As for Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, it sold over 57 000 copies during its first four days on the market, and its sell-through rate is 58.66% (meaning Nintendo shipped roughly 97 000 copies to retailers). It’s actually below the initial sales of the Wii version, which sold over 83 000 during the first days, and with a sell-through rate of 76.29%).

Sales of New Nintendo 3DS did increase slightly last week (+ 4 000 units), which shows that the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D only had a limit impact on them.
