Nintendo Live 2025 Tokyo: some more details (demos, tournaments, registrations)

Update: Nintendo has shared some more details, including the events that will be livestreamed and additional games that will be playable.

Last month, Nintendo announced that Nintendo Live is coming back to Japan this October. Nintendo Live 2025 Tokyo will take place on October 4th and October 5th at Tokyo Big Sight (Hall 1 and 2).

As previously announced, this event will feature various tournaments (with most open to the general public), demo stations with playable Nintendo Switch 2 games, and more. However, there will be no music performances, and no special merchandise available for purchase. The various tournaments and stage events will be livestreamed, though!

Also, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Today! app is required to participate in Nintendo Live 2025 Tokyo: pre-registration and admissions are managed directly via the app.

Mario Kart World Tokyo Rally (October 4th) [Livestreamed]

Pre-registrations are now live until August 5th via the Nintendo Today! app. There will be two divisions:

Mario Kart World Invitational 2025 (October 5th) [Livestreamed]

Players invites from all around the world will compete. For Japan specifically, the participants will be selected among the best players from Day 1 of the Mario Kart World Tokyo Rally 2025.

Nintendo Switch Demos (October 4th and October 5th)

Visitors will be able to try out a selection of Nintendo Switch 2 games. Nintendo specifies that no new games will be revealed during the event.

Here’s the games that will be playable:

  • Kirby Air Riders
    • Duration: 25 minutes
    • Players: 1
    • Modes: Lessons, Air Ride, City Trial
  • Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2
    • Duration: around 15 minutes
    • Players: 1
    • Details: the game is played on Nintendo Switch 2. You can choose to play either in TV or Handheld mode.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
    • Z-A Royale Demo
      • Duration: around 10 minutes
      • Players: 1
      • Details: this demo allows you to play through the tutorial of Z-A Royale. Played only in Handheld mode.
    • Rogue Mega Evolution Demo
      • Duration: around 15 minutes
      • Players: 1
      • Details: played only in Handheld mode.
  • Drag x Drive (2 Wins Streak Challenge) [Livestreamed
    • Duration: 30 minutes (15 minutes if you lose in first round)
    • Players 1 (up to 6 players can play)
    • Reward for winning: original wristband
    • Details: 2 teams of 3 players will compete to try and get two consecutive wins. Teams are determined via lottery. The matches will be livestreamed on YouTube.

    • Explanations: Nijisawa Gakuen (Uragiri Monkey Kong), Fuuji (Uragiri Monkey Kong)
  • Mario Kart World (Survival Challenge)
    • Duration: 15 minutes
    • Players: 1 (up to 24 players can play)
  • Donkey Kong Bananza
    • Emerald Rush Challenge
      • Duration: 20 minutes (session will end even if you’re in the middle of a round)
      • Players: 1
      • Details: stage is DK Island (difficulty level: 1, 6 rounds in total). If you collect at least 5,000.0 emeral ore, you will get a prize (a Void Co. employee card). You play using the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip (wired).
    • Beginner Demo
      • Duration: around 15 minutes
      • Details: allows you to enjoy the beginning of the game (differs slightly from the full version of the game)

Photo Spots and Exhibitions (October 4th and October 5th)

  • Charles Martinet Meet and Greet
    • There will be two sessions of 25 minutes on both days (exact time TBA). Number of participants is limited.
  • Mario Characters Photo Spot
    • Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad
  • Kirby Air Riders Photo Spot
    • Kirby, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee
  • Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary
    • An exhibition that goes over the 40 years history of the Super Mario Bros. series.

Children Area (October 4th and October 5th)

An area dedicated to pre-school children (only families with them will be allowed to enter). Will feature the Kao Mario line of products.

Also, Nintendo reiterates that only those who pre-register and are selected via random lottery will be able to attend the event. There are two types of pre-registrations, and you need to be selected for both if you want to experience everything Nintendo Live 2025 Tokyo has to offer.

  • Tournaments registration: allows you to attend tournaments as both participant and spectator. Pre-registrations are now live until August 5th at 3PM JST.
  • General admission: allows you to attend tournaments but only as a spectator, and to try out the Nintendo Switch 2 demos. Pre-registrations are now open.
