Media Create: more sales data for Week 15 (JP, 2016)

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 15.

During that week, a total of 304 000 games were sold in Japan, which is 66.76% of Week 14 sales. Hardware sales also dropped sharply, with only 60 000 units sold (88.12% of Week 14 sales). Media Create notes that this was the weakest week of the year since January. Compared to last year during the same period, the drop is also quite noticeable (especially for Software):

  • Software sales were at 79.79% of their levels in 2015
  • Hardware sales were at 94.81% of their levels in 2015

During Week 15, only four new games were released, and none of them sold more than 10 000 units (together, they only reached 14 000 units sold: that’s 25.83% of Week 14 sales for new games). But even previously released games saw a sharp drop this week: they went from 401 000 units to 290 000 units. For example:

  • Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (4th week on the market): 49.13% of Week 14 sales during Week 15;
  • Yo-kai Sangokushi (3rd week on the market): 46.31% of Week 14 sales during Week 15.

Finally, here’s sellthrough data for Day 1:

  • Star Fox Zero + Star Fox Guard Double Pack: 30% (nothing special)
  • Star Fox Zero (stand-alone): 10%
