Media Create: more sales data for Week 4 (2016) in Japan, monthly data

Week 4

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 4, 2016. During Week 4, over 900 000 games were sold in Japan, which is 154.54% of Week 3 sales. This major increase is quite obviously to the popular new games, and more specifically Dragon Quest Builders.

Hardware sales also a noticeable increase, with over 120 000 units sold, which is 130.36% of Week 3 sales. Most of that is due to the PS Vita, as both Nintendo platforms (Wii U and Nintendo 3DS) were down.

In January, Nintendo wasn’t the most successful publisher in Japan; Square-Enix was, primarily thanks to Dragon Quest Builders and its successful launch. Still, Nintendo managed to get a 14.65% market share only thanks to evergreen titles, and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (which had a surprisingly good debut).

Here’s the Top 5 of publishers in Japan in January 2016:
