Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics (Wii U): overview video

Mario Sonic OlympicsToday, Nintendo uploaded the usual overview video for Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics, which comes out next month worldwide. The trailer starts by showing a bit of the intro cinematic, and mentions there’s about 30 playable characters in the game.

We also get the list of the 14 sports to be found in the Wii U version:

  • Rugby Sevens
  • BMX
  • 4 x 100m relay
  • Table Tennis
  • Rhythm Gymnastics
  • 100m
  • Football / Soccer
  • Triple Jump
  • 100 freestyle swimming
  • Javelin throw
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Boxing
  • Equestrian – Jumping
  • Archery

There’s also the Duel Events for the following sports:

  • Rugby Sevens
  • Football
  • Beach Volleyball

The trailer also showcases another new mode from Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics: Heroes Showdown. You can chose between Team Mario and Team Sonic. In this mode, you can win various costumes for your Mii (there’s over 400 clothing items in total), which can grant some power-ups. Of course, the trailer also shows how amiibo are used in the game.
