Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics: E3 trailer and screenshots

Announced last month during the latest Japanese Nintendo Direct, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics will come out on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Both versions will have some exclusive sports, such as Golf (Nintendo 3DS) or Rugby sevens (Wii U). Some of the other playable sports include Soccer, Rugby, Beach Volley Ball and Table Tennis.

Here’s the main features of the Wii U version:

  • Compete in fun and exciting Olympic events set throughout host city Rio de Janeiro.
  • Join Mario, Sonic and your favorite characters to take on challenging events like Soccer, Beach Volleyball, and Rugby.
  • 2016 marks the first Olympic Games appearance for Rugby since 1924, and the event is exclusive to the Wii U™ version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Here’s the main features of the Nintendo 3DS version:

  • Take on fun and exciting events set throughout host city Rio de Janeiro.
  • Join Mario, Sonic and your favorite characters to take on new challenging events like Soccer and Beach Volleyball.
  • Soccer is a popular sport in Brazil where the Rio 2016 Olympic Games are set.
  • Golf returns to the Olympic Games for the first time in 112 years; enjoy the event exclusively in the Nintendo 3DS™ version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
