Japan: The Super Mario Bros. Movie tops foreign box office in 2023

The Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan has shared box office data for 2023 in Japan, revealing which were the 20 most successful movies in the country.

Unsurprisingly, the Super Mario Bros. Movie was the most successful foreign movie in 2023 in Japan, and the 2nd most successful movie overall (only THE FIRST SLAM DUNK recorded higher sales). Nintendo’s first proper foray in the movie business is a resounding success even on its home turf!

  1. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (14.02 billion Yen / $94.8 million. As of October 18th, box office revenue was at 14,000,490,640 Yen)
