Japan: more sales data for Week 42 (Media Create), Digital sales estimates for September (Famitsu)

Media Create

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 42. During that week, a total of 404 000 units were sold for Software, which amounts to 113.64% of Week 41 sales. Most of that drop comes from new games with a total of 203 000 units sold.

On the other hand, Hardware sales decreased slightly last week, to 64 000 units (that amounts to 91.43% of Week 41 sales), so about 10% less compared to Week 41. The main reason for that drop is the lack of games capable of moving hardware. Those that did come out didn’t sell enough to do so, or appealed mostly to users who already owned the platform it was on. Mario Party: Star Rush managed to get in both categories.

Unfortunately, Dengeki Online hasn’t shared any data this week, but we will make sure to update this post when they do!

Famitsu

In its latest issues, Famitsu magazine shared their digital sales estimates for September 2016 (August 29th to September 25th). They show that Pokémon Red Version / Blue Version / Green Version / Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition just keeps on selling. Sabaku no Nezumi-dan, released on Nintendo 3DS right after the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, also enjoyed strong sales.
