[Japan] Famitsu sales for Week 18, 2019 (April 29th – May 5th) [Top 30]

Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu (and Media Create), covering Week 18, 2019 in Japan.

Week 18 was the infamous Golden Week in Japan, and since it’s a great period for video games sales in Japan, it’s no wonder so many games saw their sales rise dramatically this week. Of course, the various evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch all performed strongly, as you can see in the Top 30 from Famitsu below.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was already enjoying strong sales, and it saw a 75% increase during the Golden Week with 23 756 units sold. This brings total sales to 3 066 906 units… the game is well on its way to the 4 million units milestone, though it will definitely not reach it before many more months at retail only.

As for Minecraft, it’s popular all year long, but it also saw a big boost in sales during the Golden Week. It weekly sales nearly doubled (+91%), with 20 114 units sold. It’s now sold 768 123 units since launch, and there’s little doubt it will reach 800 000 units at retail alone before the end of the month.

Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is one of the few games that saw its weekly sales more than double, with a 115% increase. The 19 310 units sold during Week 18 brings total sales to 604 116 units. The 600 000 units milestone has been reached, and there’s little doubt it will eventually end up selling over 1 million units (especially if you factor in digital sales).

Finally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also saw its weekly sales double, with 17 723 units sold (+110%). Sales are inevitable going to drop next week, but it certainly will not be the end of this game… far from it!

• 06./07. [NSW] Yoshi’s Crafted World (Nintendo) – 15.275 / 125.146 <60-80%> (+67%). The sell-through indicates that retailers order more than enough copies for the Golden Week;
• 07./11. [NSW] Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Let’s Go, Eevee! (Pokemon Co.) – 14.220 / 1.518.658 <80-100%> (+93%): game is still selling, which certainly bodes well for Pokémon Sword and Shield later this year;
• 08./16. [NSW] Super Mario Party (Nintendo) – 13.272 / 1.020.100 <80-100%> (+124%). The biggest Week on Week increase!
• 09./14. [NSW] Splatoon 2 (Nintendo) – 12.233 / 3.058.082 <80-100%> (+93%). It may have lost the sales battle against Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s certainly done selling!
• 10./13. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo) – 10.497 / 1.309.237 <80-100%> (+58%). The really is no stopping this game!
