[GDC 17] Zelda: Breath of the Wild panel announced for March 1st

The Game Developers Conference is an event for video game developers, with various panels, meetings, and more. Nintendo has attended it several times in the past (that’s where Satoru Iwata made some of his memorable keynotes, such as the “Heart of Gamer” one from 2005), but it’s been a little while since we had anything significant from Nintendo at GDC. But this year will be different: Nintendo announced today that there will be a panel dedicated to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It will take place on March 1st, from 11 AM to 12.30PM. (at the Moscone Center). Called “Change and Constant – Breaking Conventions with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, it will feature the following people:

  • Hidemaro Fujibayashi (Director)
  • Satoru Takizawa (Art Director)
  • Takuhiro Dohta (Technical Director)

Here’s the official description of the panel:

For decades, The Legend of Zelda series has been recognized as a trailblazer in game design that has influenced countless other games and developers. The latest game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U systems, introduces wide-ranging changes that break with many of the traditional conventions of the franchise. The panel will provide an in-depth look at how these convention-breaking changes were implemented.

Unfortunately, the panel will not be streamed live, though we can definitely expect Nintendo of America to tweet the key points on Twitter. Also, a recording of the panel will then be available on GDC vault the following, though we don’t know on which day yet.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch, Wii U) comes out on March 3rd.
