Fire Emblem if to feature amiibo support

Today, Nintendo announced cover plates for Fire Emblem if, and also a New Nintendo 3DS package including those cover plates and a 16GB microSD card. That package is already available for pre-order on Amazon.co.jp, which has also updated its product page for the two versions of Fire Emblem if.

They added an updated version of the boxarts, that you can find below:

Here’s the previous version of the boxarts:

The artwork itself remains unchanged, but at the top right corner, the amiibo logo has been added. That means that Fire Emblem if will have amiibo support, even though we don’t know for what exactly. We also don’t know if Nintendo will release new amiibo for the game (most likely the two new protagonists), or if only the existing Fire Emblem amiibo will be compatible.

No doubt that Nintendo will make an announcement pretty soon, with details about what the amiibo will do in the game, and an eventual list of new figurines. If there is indeed new amiibo made for Fire Emblem if, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo will wait until 2016 to release them in the West (as the game won’t come out before next year in Europe and North America).

Fire Emblem if (3DS) comes out on June 25th in Japan, and next year in Europe and North America.
