Earthworms

Last week, SONKA announced they were bringing Earthworms (an abstract point and click) to the Nintendo Switch. It will be released on August 24th in Europe and North America. It will cost 4.99€ / $4.99. Here’s all you need to know about it:

Feel the thrill of horror mixed with a dose of humor, beauty, ugliness, and weirdness in the surreal world of Earthworms – brought to Switch specially for you to delve into! Play as Daniel White, a private detective endowed with parapsychic abilities, and solve investigations with the help of his visions. Soon, what he thinks is a typical missing person case, will lead him to a global conspiracy.

The game was redesigned specifically for Nintendo Switch so apart from many other changes, you can play any way you like:

  • on touch screen
  • with Joy-Cons/Pro Controller,
  • AND one handed: everything you need is found on a single Joy-Con!

We fixed a lot of minor bugs and glitches present in the PC version of the game. Apart from that, interface and input were redesigned specifically for Nintendo Switch. We changed text size, fonts, UI placements and animations. As for the input, the “magnetize” feature was implemented, which greatly improved cursor handling on mouse-free platform by snapping the cursor to the nearest object. One handed mode is also new; all the input features are present on one Joy-Con, both for game’s accessibility and QOL.

  • Explore and interact with 34 locations inspired by Edward Hopper’s work.
  • Challenging logical puzzles as addition to classic inventory interactions.
  • Original and whimsical soundtrack.

Defunct

Last week, Soedesco announced that Defunct (an adventure racing game) was headed to the Nintendo Switch. It will be released on September 13th in Europe and North America, and is already available for pre-purchase on the Nintendo eShop.

Here’s all you need to know about it:

The Nintendo Switch™ is a perfect match for the fast, fun and family friendly Defunct. Switch players can easily start Defunct on the go, to quickly complete a level or set a new time record. The game offers a high replay value since the goal is to break the speed record. Players can get through the levels over and over in different ways, in an attempt to make it to the top of the leaderboards!

In Defunct, players take the role of a broken robot that accidentally falls out of a giant cargo ship onto a post-human Earth, now inhabited by robots. The robot has to hurry back to the ship before it’s too late. It is equipped with a “gravitize” engine, which allows players to gain momentum. By using this engine and a range of energy boosts found along the way, players can get maximum flow and speed and dash through different landscapes ranging from jungles to deserts.

  • Dash over the hills at maximum speed with the unique “gravitize” engine
  • Complete varied levels full of different climates, biomes and challenges
  • Compete for the best time in time trial mode (with 5 extra levels)
  • Unlock several different skins to customize the main character
  • Show off with special tricks you can unlock throughout the game

Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle

Last week, Happinet announced they were bringing Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle to the Nintendo Switch. It will be released on August 30th worldwide, and will cost 11.99€ / £10.99 / $13.99 / 1 500 Yen.

Here’s all you need to know about it:

Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle aims to deliver a fast-paced, challenging, mysterious, and suspenseful single-player RPG experience utilizing smart tactics and quick thinking to defeat enemies in real-time.

Set during the Edo Period of Japan, Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle is based on the eerie and terrifying Hyakki Island, a place where prisoners are sent to live in exile. A mysterious castle suddenly appears on the island bringing a slew of creepy monsters, such as the “Yokai” of ancient Japanese literature. The island imprisons a cunning rebel mastermind who seeks to overthrow the Shogun order and assassinate its leader. Players play as four special agents of the Shogun order, specializing in Yokai and monster slaying, to investigate the island’s mysterious Hyakki Castle, and to eliminate the rebel mastermind manipulating the Island and its inhabitants.

Featuring a unique approach to the traditional real-time dungeon RPG genre, Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle encourages players to split their party with its exclusive 2-party system, a feature not yet seen in real-time dungeon RPGs on consoles, making strategic fights easier. Players must use unique skills and move-sets in destroying monsters with distinctive attacks and behavior, while executing pincer attacks, flanks and more as you progress upward in the mysteries castle to defeat the rebel mastermind causing the extraordinary events on the island.

  • Real-time RPG Action: Execute various tactics such as flanking, distracting, and more for your party in real-time as “Yokai” appear throughout the castle to bring death upon players
  • Twice the Possibilities: Split your group of assassins into two parties at any time to deal with traps, puzzles, and enemies for unparalleled strategy and party options
  • Explore a Monstrous Castle: The enormous castle is filled with cunning traps—some of which can only be solved by dividing your party—and tough boss monsters, testing player instincts and judgement
  • Explore Japanese Character Classes and Races: Choose to play as an Oni, Tengu, Human, or Nekomata with four distinct races on tap to add diverse skillsets to your party
  • Tutorial Mode: Learn to survive and defeat the Yokai and bosses in a tutorial mode that provides an in-depth explanation on all the mechanics and tactics needed to survive
  • Redefined UI Experience: Experience real-time gameplay with improved UI designed for console gameplay and beginners of the real-time dungeon RPG genre
