The Legend of Bum-bo

Yesterday, Edmund McMillen revealed his next game: The Legend of Bum-bo, a turn-based puzzle RPG set in the Binding of Isaac universe. It’s being developed by him and James Id, with music by Ridiculon. It will be released on Nintendo Switch sometime next year… if it all goes well!

Here’s all you need to know about the game:

The Legend of Bum-bo is a randomly generated, turn based puzzle rpg where you take the role of Bum-bo (from the binding of Isaac) as he punches the faces off hordes of paper goons and takes their coins! …only to gamble them away at the casinos.

Utilizing his bag of trash bum-bo forms pagan glyph’s (via a match 4 puzzle system) that create offensive and defensive attacks and gain specific types of mana to cast epic spells that range from jagging stuff with a fish hook to summoning mom’s leg to crush all who stand in your path.

Every dungeon bum-bo enters will be randomly generated and much like isaac feature hoards of monsters, bosses, traps, puzzles and randomly chosen spells, so each run will be totally unique and each successful play through will unlock more items, trinkets, playable characters and more.

Most may notice Bum-bo seems to have a lot of ties to the binding of isaac. i like to call it a prequel, but what i mean by that outside of the obvious themes isnt something i can really explain without spoiling too much, but i can assure you if you enjoyed isaac and also like turn based combat and puzzle games, the legend of bum-bo should be right up your alley.

The Legend of Bum-bo (Switch – eShop) should be released sometime next year. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!

Spectrum

Earlier this week, Digerati announced that Spectrum (a stylish platformer) would get an all-new local 2-player Race Mode, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Here’s what this new game mode is all about:

Race Mode pits two players against each other in an intense dash and dive to the exit portal. Races are held across a series of gorgeous, abstract courses, all of which need to be deftly navigated. Race Mode supports split Joy-Con play, so can still be enjoyed with a friend even if you have just a single Joy-Con.

Immortal Redneck

Earlier this week, Crema announced that Immortal Redneck, an Egyptian-themed first-person shooter with roguelike elements, will be released on Nintendo Switch next month (on May 10th). It will cost $19.99 / 19.99€ / £17.99, and will be playable in the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Polish, and Korean.

Here’s all you need to know about it:

When the titular Redneck crashes his dune buggy in Egypt, he awakens as a mummy with guns in his hands and questions on his mind. By using classic FPS techniques like circle-strafing and bunny-hopping he will shoot his way through mythological monsters in the pyramids and discover who the heck wrapped him up.

Player will run-and-gun through three procedurally-generated pyramids and find more than 50 powerful weapons and game-changing scrolls, ensuring no two playthroughs are the same. With more than 50 weapons, 100 game-changing scrolls that help or hinder a run, and nine different player classes, the redneck has plenty of options for avenging his untimely demise.

With each death, the Redneck rises anew. Between runs, he can spend money accrued while plundering the ancient temples on stat upgrades, new classes with both active and passive abilities, and scrolls that modify the next run.

Scrolls are risky and come in positive and negative flavors, adding fun permutations. The Troll’s Foot scroll can be a blessing since it provided immunity to standing in lava and acid, but draw a negative scroll like Caution, Wet Floor, and the Redneck will continuously slide everywhere forever unable to stop.
