Dragon Quest VII: USGamer interview, French commercial

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is just around the corner, and will be released in pretty much two weeks in Europe and North America. If you haven’t had enough of the game yet, then you should definitely check out USGamer’s pretty lenghty interview with Yuu Miyake and Noriyoshi Fujimoto (Producers) from Square-Enix!

This interview covers the following topics: how the team approached development for Japanese players (already fan of the game) and western fans (not too familiar with it), what has changed compared to the PlayStation 1 version (and why it was changed in the first place), whether Square-Enix is done with Dragon Quest remakes or not, and more.

Here’s an excerpt:

Whenever the players think back on the original version, they tend to beautify the game a little bit more in their memory than it really was. So, whenever we create a remake we have to make that perception into a real, actual thing — we have to bring the game to that level. We have to create a game where we want the users to forget all the hardships that they had in the original version, like, oh, I couldn’t find the tablet, or I couldn’t do this. We have to streamline the experience.

The best compliment that we can receive from the fans, when they play a remake is, “Wow, nothing has changed!” But, in reality, there’s a lot of changes that were put into it. Then, we can showcase the very visible changes and then let them know that it’s not exactly the same.
