Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past video series: “Discover Tactics”

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is the Nintendo 3DS remake of the PS1 classic. Released back in 2013 in Japan, it’s finally about to come out in Europe and North America: there’s now a little over 1 month left to wait!

Today, Nintendo of America uploaded the fourth episode of their video series for Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. This one is all about tactics, which is something you will need to think about carefully if you want to be able to save the world.

During battles, you have to take into account things such as enemy types and statuse. For example, a Metal Slime is totally immune to magic, and only receive 1 or 2 damage points per attack. To defeat it, you have to find strategies to either deal critical hits, or hit enemies several times in a row.

One thing to note about weapons is that they can be imbued with magic properties, in order to inflict negative status to enemies. Nintendo gives us a good example with the Dream Blade, which can put enemies to sleep. Of course,  those statuses also impact your characters: you can be put to sleep, paralysed, and even killed.

But fear not: using specific items, you can heal those negatives statuses… yes, even Death! Just make sure you don’t run out at a critical moment. Learning when to use those items will be key to victory in many a battle. And besides items, you can also use accessories: one of them, the Prayer Ring, allows you to recover magic points.

Here’s the fourth episode of Nintendo’s video series for Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, which is all about tactics:

The next episode will be about the Haven. In the mean time, make sure you check out this post for some gameplay footage and screenshots!

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS) comes out on September 16th in Europe and North America.
