Let’s cut to the chase, and start with the announcement many of you were looking for: Europe will get the playable demo on February 11th. It will be downloadable from the Nintendo eShop, naturally. It will focus on the Three Cavaliers: Yew Geneolgia, Janne Angard, and Nikolai Nikolanikov, and apparently acts as a prelude to the adventure.

Just like with Bravely Default: Where the Fairy Flies, players will be able to unlock various goodies in the full game thanks to the demo, depending on their progress.

New details

First, Nintendo gives us a refresher about the story.

It all starts with Kaiser Oblivion kidnapping Agnès Oblige, and taking her to the Skyhold (his impregnable fortress, floating high above Eternia). The protagonist, Yew Geneolgia (who is also Agnès’s bodyguard), pledges to save her. During his quest, he will have to team up with Magnolia Arch, new faced, but also returning characters such as Edea Lee and Tiz Arrior. Together, they will have to go through many dungeons, and fight countless enemies.

Gameplay-wise, the Brave and Default commands are back, and work just like in Bravely Second. The risk/reward aspect of those two commands is intact, and is magnified by one of the new features of the game. In a battle, If you manage to beat all the enemies in a single turn, you can chose to immediately start another battle. This battle is more difficult, but it also increases your chances of getting rewards.

In other words, you can rack up a lot of rewards and XP (which is a greaty way to level up your characters, and their Jobs) in a swift manner, thanks to those consecutive battles. But as you can imagine, there’s a catch: if you’re defeated in battle, you will lost everything… Better make sure you know your limits, and avoid getting too greedy!

Nintendo mentions that the game features around 30 Jobs (or classes), with skills to equip: those will be pretty much necessary to survive. Just like in any RPG, winning battles allows your characters to get XP,  but also learn new attacks and skills (which open up a lot of possibilities for strategies to use in battles).

In Bravely Second: End Layer, players will be able to use several new jobs, including:

  • Patissier:  enfeebles foes with delicious desserts;
  • Catmancer: uses a deep understanding of felines to increase the team’s abilities and find useful items.
