amiibo: several new figures leaked ahead of E3

With E3 just around the corner, the leaks season is in full swing, and this year, they have been even more numerous than ever before. Unfortunately, Nintendo really isn’t safe from those, as seen yesterday when most of the content from today’s Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS update leaked ahead of release.

And today, we got another leak from Nintendo, and more precisely Nintendo Spain. Here’s the picture sent along with a promotional email:

This picture shows several amiibo, and most of those are already known and/or available… but not those on the bottom row! We have:

– Pixel Mario (Mario Maker / Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary)
– Tom Nook (Animal Crossing)
– Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
– Mable Able (Animal Crossing)
– Totakeke (Animal Crossing)

The first one (Pixel Mario) isn’t all that surprising when you think back to the listing on the North American Nintendo eShop, which shows that the game will be compatible with amiibo. What’s more, with the Super Mario Bros. series celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, it’s wouldn’t be too farfetched for Nintendo to release a special amiibo to celebrate. Actually, there is a high probability it will be available in a bundle with Mario Maker.

As for the Animal Crossing amiibo, it might be the sign that Nintendo is planning to release a new Animal Crossing, but on Wii U. After all, pretty much all figures outside of the Super Smash Bros. series have come together with a major release (Mario Party 10, Splatoon, Yoshi’s Woolly World). Since Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer already has the amiibo cards, those amiibo figures must be for something else…

No doubt we’ll get a confirmation next week, during the Nintendo Digital Event!
