[Japan] The Super Mario Bros. Movie: sales data for the home video release [Update: Week 129]
In the weeks and months following the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in Japan, TOHO (the Japanese distributor) shared regular updates about its box office performance.
Starting today (September 6th), the Super Mario Bros. Movie is available on Blu-Ray (and DVD), and thanks to Oricon, we have some sales data (daily and weekly) for that home video release.
This post will be updated on a regular basis with all relevant data, so keep checking back!

Total sales
The various versions of the Super Mario Bros. Movie have sold:
- DVD: 42,162 units sold (as of February 22nd 2026)
- Blu-Ray: 3,172 units sold (as of January 12th 2025)
- Blu-Ray + DVD combo: 76,210 units sold (as of June 9th 2024)
- SteelBook Blu-Ray + DVD combo: 4,757 units sold (as of September 2023)
- 4k Ultra HD + Blu-Ray combo: 2,784 units sold (as of September 2023)
- SteelBook 4k Ultra HD + Blu-Ray combo (Limited Edition): 1,039 units sold (as of September 2023)
- SteelBook 4k Ultra HD + Blu-Ray combo: 790 units sold (as of September 2023)
- Total: 133,613 units sold (as of February 22nd 2026, but missing some data)

According to Oricon, the stand-alone DVD of the Super Mario Bros. Movie sold 133 units during its 66th week, which brings total sales to 42,162 units. It ranked #32 in the DVD ranking, and #7 in the Anime DVD ranking.
And as for the stand-alone Blu-ray, it did not rank this week.
Total sales for all versions combined now stand at 133,613 units.
