Yoshi’s Woolly World: more details (story, collectibles, etc.) and artworks

Today, Yoshi’s Woolly World is under the spotlight with a new video showcasing the various Yoshi patterns to unlock (thanks to the Wonder Wools), some screenshots, but also some new details and artworks. Just make sure you’re not susceptible to cuteness overloads before proceeding any further on this page!

Yoshi's Woolly World

In a Press Release, Nintendo announced that Yoshi’s Woolly World will include over 50 levels. The game takes place on Craft Island, a real paradise located somewhere in the Handmade Ocean (with lush woolly meadows and fluffy mountain peaks). Various colourful Yoshi live there, and one day, Kamek turns up and kidnap them all after turning everyone into yarn balls. But it seems an even more sinister enemy is behind all this…

As the only Yoshi who managed to escape from Kamek’s mass kidnapping, you have to go through various worlds in order to save your brethrens. During the adventure, you’ll get to use various techniques such as the usual Ground Pound or Flutter Jump. Of course, you can still gobble up enemies, but this time, you transform them into balls of yarn.

Yoshi’s Woolly World will also feature various transformations for Yoshi, such as:

– Mermaid Yoshi (swims fast in water)
– Sky Pop Yoshi (an aeroplane)
– Moto Yoshi (high speed motorbike)

And as mentionned during the Nintendo Direct on April 1st/2nd, the game will feature a Mellow Mode (which makes levels a bit easier, thanks to the Winged Yoshi) and a 2 player co-op mode.

If you like collectibles, you’re in for a treat as you will be able to collect the following in Yoshi’s Wooly World:

– Hearts (restore Yoshi’s life)
– Stamp Patches (to unlock Miiverse stamps)
– Smiley Flowers (unlock minigames)
– Beads (use to purchase Power Badges; those can be used to get powered-up Ground Pounds or get Poochy as a companion during a level)
– Wonder Wools (allows you to unlock over 50 patterns for Yoshi. You can then visit the Yoshi Hut to play as one of those unique Yoshi at any time)

Finally, here’s various artworks for the game:

Yoshi’s Woolly World (Wii U) comes out on June 26th in Europe, and later this year in Japan and North America.
