Yooka-Laylee revealed ahead of Kickstart campaign launch

In a few hours, Playtonic (made up of former developers from RARE) wil launch their Kickstarter campaign for Yooka-Laylee (previously known as Project Ukulele). Announced a few weeks ago, Yooka-Laylee is a 3D platformer and a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie.

Yooka-Laylee is actually the name of the two characters:

– Yooka: the chameleon
– Laylee: the bat.

They were created by Steve Mayles, the same person who came up with the chara-design for Banjo, Kazooie and the modern Kong family while at RARE.

In the game, Yooka and Laylee use their unique abilities to fight enemies and explore the world of the game. For example, Yooka can use his tongue as a grappling hook, while Laylee can grab his partner to fly for a short period of time. He can also use a sonar blast against enemies.

Here’s a video for Yooka-Layylee (made after 3 months of development):

The Kickstart campaign will be launched in a few hours, and players will be able to grab a copy of the game by pledging at least £10/$15. Of course, various extras will be available for people willing to pledge additional money, such as soundtracks, art books, and a special ’64-bit’ special edition of the game.

Finally, here’s various pictures/artworks for the game:
