UK: video games sales for Week 26, 2016 (June 27 – July 3)

Week 26 saw the release of several games in the United Kingdom, and two of them are for Nintendo platforms. The first one is Minecraft: Wii U Edition, which landed at #15: a rather respectable performance for a Wii U game, especially one that’s been available digitally via the Nintendo eShop since December 2015. It’s the new best-selling title on Wii U.

Now it remains to be seen how long it will hang around in the Top 40. The other versions of the game are frequently seen in there, but their install base is significantly bigger than the Wii U’s. But since the Wii U is generally good for family-focused titles, and Minecraft remains hugely popular, Minecraft: Wii U Edition might hang around in the Top 40 a bit longer than expected.

Next, we have LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Nintendo 3DS, which landed at #24 (way below the other versions). It will most likely be gone from the Top 40 altogether within the next couple of weeks. If you’re wondering where the Wii U version is, you can stop wondering right now: the game only comes out tomorrow on that platform, so it will only appear in next week’s Top 40.

As for Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics on Wii U, it’s holding surprisingly well: it’s #31 this week (as opposed to #32 during its launch week). Finally, we have Tomodachi Life, which makes its comeback at #39. This is most likely due to the start of the Summer holidays, and the next promotional campaign.
