THQ Nordic working on (at least) three projects for the Nintendo Switch

Yesterday, THQ Nordic sent a press release to announce they had acquired rights for three additional franchises:

  • Sphinx (and the Cursed Mummy, a third person action-adventure game), from Mobile Gaming Studios Ltd.
  • War Leaders: Clash of Nations (a turn-based global strategy game), from Enigma Software Productions S.L.
  • Legends of War (a turn-based strategy series), from Enigma Software Productions S.L.

But what’s really interesting in that press release are the comments from Lars Wingefors (THQ Nordic CEO):

Due to our love for these types of games they were natural acquisition targets, however this financially a smaller acquisition it adds up to our portfolio. Moreover, we also got a lot of messages from fans that encouraged us to add them to our portfolio. Among these titles, Sphinx (and the Cursed Mummy) is very well suited for the Nintendo audience – which we love to support. We are excited for Nintendo Switch, Nintendos new platform, and already have two other projects in development for it.

The wording here is pretty interesting: first, Lars Wingerfors explains that Sphinx is “well suited” for the Nintendo audience. Then, he explains that THQ Nordic already has “two other projects”, which directly implies Sphinx is one of the projects the company is working on for the Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what that Sphinx project is (a remaster? A remake? A brand new entry?), or what the other two projects are about (one is most likely Darksiders Warmastered Edition). One thing’s for sure, THQ Nordic has been accumulating rights for many franchises in the past few years, and it will be interesting what they end up reviving.

The list of confirmed games/developers for the Nintendo Switch has been updated!
