Square-Enix: next “Bravely” game might be completely different, Bravely Second trademark in Europe

Bravely Second trademark

Bravely Default: Where the Fairy Flies came out in December 2013 in Europe, and February 2014 in North America. This long-awaited JRPG was quite successful at launch, as it ended up selling one million units worldwide (with the majority of sales coming from Europe and North America).

Therefore, it’s quite likely that Square-Enix will release the sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, in the West, but nothing has been confirmed just yet. However, we now have the first sign that the company is planning to release the game outside Japan.

Yesterday, Square-Enix filed a trademark for “Bravely Second” in Europe. The application is still under examination, but it’s only a matter of time until the trademark is fully registrated. It’s quitely we’ll hear about the game at E3, though nothing is guaranteed right now. This trademark isn’t quite a confirmation, but it’s certainly a positive sign!

Next “Bravely” game

In an interview with Gamer.ne.jp, Tomoya Asano (Producer) confirmed that the team currently had no plans for additional scenarios (via DLC) for Bravely Second: End Layer. They do have plans for patches, though, but he didn’t tell what those patches would fix/add (or when they would be released).

He also confirmed that Square-Enix currently had no plans for a “Director’s Cut” version of Bravely Second: End Layer, à la “For the Sequel”. At the moment, the team is only thinking about the Western version of the game (which certainly makes a European and North American release quite likely, especially coupled with the European trademark!).

Tomoya Asano then talked about the possible next entry in the Bravely franchise, and explained that it might not necessarily be a sequel (like Bravely Second: End Layer was to Bravely Default: Where the Fairy Flies). At the moment, the team is currently thinking about whether a sequel or something brand new would be more appropriate (which is apparently a hot topic among the developers!).

Shinji Takahashi (Assistant Producer) then added that they were currently thinking about the kind of things request by players, and analysing their feedback.
