Splatoon: official changelog in English + download size for Ver. 2.8.0 update

Splatoon 1Last week, Nintendo announced that the Sheldon’s Picks Vol. 2 would be be available on June 8th (June 7th if you live in North America). Naturally, that means that the next Software update for Splatoon, which will also include some main weapons, sub weapons and abilities balance fixes, will also be available on the same day.

And so, without further ado, here’s the changelog for Ver. 2.0.0 for Splatoon:

New weapons and gear

  • Nine new weapons added, available in the weapon shop Ammo Knights
    • Please note: the new weapons and gear will appear in the shop following the release of the software update.
  • Two new kinds of gear added, available in the shop

Weapon and ability adjustments

  • Adjustments to main weapons, sub weapons and abilities. Click here for more information.

Stage adjustments

  • Arowana Mall: Adjustments to prevent players from taking certain shortcuts in all modes.
  • Bluefin Depot: Fixed a problem where players could go inside a certain object in Rainmaker mode.
  • Camp Triggerfish: Adjustment for detecting when you have brought the Rainmaker too far back towards your own starting area
  • Piranha Pit: Adjustments to prevent players from taking certain shortcuts in all modes.

Fixes for issues in battles

  • Fixes an issue where players could jump higher than usual by touching an opponent’s Splash Wall

Other changes

  • Introduces several enhancements to improve the user’s experience and enjoyment

This update is required in order to play online, but it will not have any impact on your save data. It will require 241MB of free space on your Wii U or external HDD if you already have Ver. 2.7.0 installed, and up to 767MB if you have an earlier version of the game.

To download the update, you have two options:

  • lets the Wii U do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated. You should have the latest version of Splatoon the next time you turn on your console;
  • if not, you can launch Splatoon from the Home Menu (not the Quick Start Menu), in order to trigger the download manually.

To check that you have the latest version installed, simply launched the game: you should see Ver. 2.8.0 at the top right corner of the screen.

  • Europe: June 8th (2.50AM to 4.30AM)
  • UK: June 8th (1.50AM to 3.30AM)
  • North America (EST): June 7th (8.50PM to 10.30PM)
  • North America (PST): June 7th (5.50PM to 7.30PM)
  • Japan: June 8th (9.50AM to 11.30AM)
