Splatoon: Dark Horse releasing The Art of Splatoon in English, out in June

One of the most refreshing (pun totally intended) aspects of Splatoon is most definitely its artstyle, which is unlike any other Nintendo game. And it’s not just what you can see in-game: even the many bits of promotional artworks created for the game (such as the posters for the fictional bands who “perform” the tracks heard in-game) are quite popular and contribute to Splatoon’s unique visual style.

Last year, Nintendo released an artbook in Japan: it features over 300 pages filled with artworks, rough sketches and other production documents. As for the cover, it was drawn by the one and only Seita Inoue, the Art Director of Splatoon.

Only available in Japanese, this artbook will see an English release next year, courtesy of Dark Horse Books. The localised version will be known as The Art of Splatoon, and will be released on June 13th. It can already be pre-ordered on Amazon.com [NB: affiliate link], which is selling it for $39.99 as of writing (the price will most definitely go down in the upcoming weeks/months).

Here’s the official description for The Art of Splatoon:

The Art of Splatoon contains 320 inkredible pages of artwork, including 2D and 3D illustrations of your favorite characters, maps, concept art, weapon and gear design, storyboards, sketches, hand-drawn comics . . . and that’s only an inkling of what’s inside. We’re not squidding around: this is a must have for all fans of Splatoon!

  • Character illustrations!
  • Concept art!
  • Behind the scenes notes!
  • All the content that splatters most!

And here’s the cover for the artbook, which is the same as the one used in Japan:

The Art of Splatoon will be released on June 13th in English. It has been added to the Upcoming Releases page!
