Update – Splatoon: amiibo support confirmed?

Update: was the eShop listing a mistake? Probably not, as the whole page has been removed from the Nintendo eShop, and not just the amiibo part!

Also, the South African retailer that listed several Splatoon amiibo last week also removed them from its website. The interesting thing is: before Nintendo announced the release for Kiby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, this morning, the game already had that release date on this website, which seems to indicate it did get all that info straight from Nintendo.

A few days ago, we learned from a South African retailers that Splatoon might be getting several amiibo. Today, thanks to the North American Nintendo eShop, we learn that the game could very well be compatible with Nintendo’s NFC figures.

On the eShop page, “amiibo” is included in the list of links for related software (along with Nintendo, Action Multiplayer and Shooter). This seems to confirm that Splatoon will indeed have amiibo support, though we don’t know whether the game will get its own figures (this seems more than likely now, though nothing’s confirmed yet).

No doubt that Nintendo should make an announcement pretty soon, probably during a Nintendo Direct and/or whenever the release date for the game is eventually revealed! That eShop listing might still be an error, so it’s probably better to wait for an official announcement before celebrating.

Splatoon (Wii U) comes out in May, worldwide.
