Sonic: Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics in June / Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice this Fall?

Sonic Boom 2At the New York Toy Fair, earlier this month, Tomy (who is making the Sonic Boom line of toys) had a sign on its booth, with some details about upcoming Sonic projects. Here’s the rundown:

  • the Wii U version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics will apparently launch in June (which does make sense: SEGA and Nintendo will want to have the game out before the actual Rio 2016 Olympics, but before the start of the Summer holidays);
  • Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, announced back in June, has apparently been delayed to Fall 2016. That means the game would launch basically one year later than originally scheduled (it was supposed to be a Holiday 2015 game). What’s “surprising” about this delay is that the game was rated by the PEGI and the USK in November and July 2015, respectively. In other words: the game has been completed for a while now. But there seems to be a good reason for that delay…
  • … indeed: it looks like the second season for the Sonic Boom TV series will air in Fall 2016. Basically, it looks like SEGA chose to delay the game, in order to have its release coincide with the start of the new TV series (which is a pretty sensible thing to do).

No doubt SEGA will have proper announcements about Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics (Wii U), Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, the second season for the Sonic Boom TV series, and the 25th Anniversary of the Sonic series within the next few weeks.
