San Diego Comic-Con 2017: Nintendo’s line-up and activities

The San Diego Comic-Con takes place between July 20th and July 23th, and this year again, Nintendo will be there with plenty of games to try. The best part? You don’t even need a San Diego Comic-Con badge to try most of them, as they will be available in Nintendo’s lounge at the San Diego Marriot Marquis & Marine hotel. As a matter of fact, the only game not playable at this lounge is Super Mario Odyssey!

Nintendo explains that the ballroom of the Marriot Marquis & Marine hotel will be transformed into a “colourful Nintendo paradise”, perfect for pictures.

Besides games, Hardware will also be shown at the lounge, with the various Nintendo 3DS games playable on the New Nintendo 2DS XL (which launches the following week), but also the Supes NES Classic Edition (not playable, only on display).

There will also be some competitions, with various prizes to win: the Play Nintendo Challenge. Those are open to the public, and take place at various times throughout the week (10AM to 7PM on July 20th/21st, and 10AM to 5PM on Jumy 23rd). Naturally, participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here’s how it all works:

  • if you’re selected, you start with an 8-player Turf War match in Splatoon 2;
  • if you win that match, you and your teammate compete in ARMS
  • if you win your match, you and another player will battle during a one-on-one battle in Pokémon Tournament DX
  • if you win that match, then you will get a Nintendo-themed t-shirt

And to celebrate the launch of Splatoon, there will be several Splatoon-themed activities:

  • photo opportunities at the Nintendo lounge, with replicas of the in-game weapons;
  • two Splatoon 2 cosplayers (professionals!) will visit the booth regularly, for fans to take photos with;
  • the first 20 fans (each day) to show up to the Splatoon 2 photo booth wearing a Splatoon costume will get some gifts.
