Rumour: Skylanders SuperChargers to support amiibo?

With over 250 million toys sold and over 3 billion in revenue to date, Skylanders are a real phenomenom. In comparison, the popularity of amiibo seem rather limited, with “only” 10.25 million units shipped by March 31st, 2015.

But could the two ever be available in the same game one day? It’s certainly possible, if what one developer said during the latest episode of the Giant Beatcast is to be believed. When asked about the possibility of amiibo support in the latest entry (Skylanders SuperChargers), he explained that the team was currently focused on Skylanders alone…

… before saying “We’ll have a big surprise at E3”. Could that big surprise be amiibo compatibility for the new Skylanders? It’s certainly possible, but nothing’s guaranteed just yet. If amiibo were supported in Skylanders SuperChargers, it would be one of the rare third-party game to be compatible with Nintendo’s NFC figures.
