  • Patch notes:

KEY UPDATES

PICK-A-PRIZE

  • The Roller Pass has been removed and replaced with Pick-A-Prize.
    • Select an item available in the Pick-A-Prize menu/item shop.
    • Earn fans to add progress towards earning the item.
    • As progress advances, the item will gain an increasing discount for purchase with Wheels.
    • Only one item can be earned at a time through Pick-A-Prize, you can change to a different prize at any time, but all progress will be lost.
    • More information on Pick-A-Prize.
  • Free Look previews are available for most Pick-A-Prize items to see on your character.
    • Titles, Banners, and Goal FX do NOT have visible previews through Pick-A-Prize.

MAP ROTATION

  • Three new maps have been added:
    • Fallen Temple
    • Hidden Cenote
    • Lost Civilization
  • All maps are now playable in Custom Matches, Quick Matches, Ranked, and Hot Potato.
    • This includes all maps from Kickoff season, Disco Fever, Dragon’s Way, Neo Retro, and Wild Ones.
    • Online matchmaking will prioritize Wild Ones maps for a time during the start of the season.

Note: We conducted a few polls to gauge the community’s favorite maps and, simultaneously, were working on a way to incorporate all of them! We hope you enjoy!

GAME MODES

  • The Hot Potato game mode is available in Custom Matches.
  • The Arena 8 map variant is available in Custom Matches.
  • The 2v2 Acapulco map variant is available in Custom Matches.
    • Some elements like player introductions are hindered when more than 4 players are present.
    • AI teammates have severely limited functionality while playing in this mode.
  • Clone Clash functionality is enabled in Custom Matches to play as a 1v1 match.
    • Each team must have a human player in the top slot with two AI players below to activate Clone Clash.
    • If a human player is in any slot but the first, the AI will behave as standard AI, rather than clones.

Note: Some combinations of maps and modes can run into issues with Clone behavior. Clone Clash 2v2 and Clone Clash Hot Potato, for example, do not combine. 2v2 Hot Potato and Arena 8 Clone Clash, however, have proven to be great combos!

TWITCH EXTENSION

  • A new integrated extension allows viewers to see your stats and profile, as well as those of other players in your match during a game.
    • You can disable having your stats shown by opting out of the public tracker via the online Career Page.
    • For more questions on the Career Tracker, read our FAQ.

Roller Champions – Ver. ??? (Neo Retro Mid-Season)

  • Release date: February 6th 2023 (North America, Europe) / February 7th 2023 (Japan)
  • Patch notes:

KEY UPDATES

DAILY MATCH BONUS

  • The Daily Match Bonus has been changed to give three escalating rewards:
    • Match 1: 75 Fans
    • Match 2: 100 Fans
    • Match 3: Basic Lootball

STEAM ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Achievements for Roller Champions are added to the Steam version of the game.

GAME BALANCING

CATCHING

  • Reduced the possession delay for catching the ball after it becomes free [from 0.6s to 0.3s].

Note: This change, alongside other backend changes, will remove the “Bug Shot” where passes were unblockable because the ball would pass through opponents at a close enough range.

  • Reduced the possession delay for catching the ball after a player performs a tackle [from 0.6s to 0.3s].

Note: We’ve seen submitted videos of players landing a tackle only to have the tackled player recover and get back the ball before the tackler can, even as they seemingly pass through it. We’re hoping this change will significantly reduce the frequency of that behavior.

  • Increased player’s grab radius during a dive.

DODGES

  • Increased the hitbox of Air Dodge and Dodge Dive moves.

MATCH CANCELLATION

  • Fixed an issue where players quickly leaving Ranked Matches (dodging) would not be properly sanctioned.

SETTINGS

  • Increased maximum headroom for gamepad/controller sensitivity options.

Note: Mouse and keyboard have had a higher capacity for snappy camera movement and will likely still have a higher ceiling. Though we’re hoping this change will raise the capacity for faster camera control for gamepad players.

TEAM MOVES

  • Decreased the speed boost of Team Moves in situations where there is no ground friction.

Note: We want to keep the high-impact flare, speed, and playmaking capabilities of team moves – however some use cases where the move was not limited by ground friction caused the move to be far more powerful than intended.

PLAYER COMFORT

  • Fixed the missing platform logo for each player on the Leaderboard screen in the Career tab.

  • Fixed an issue where the ball cam would not work properly at the start of the game.
  • Fixed an issue where the goal replay would occasionally not be played.

  • Steam players are added to the cross-play matchmaking pool!

MAP ROTATION

  • Removed Acapulco, Mexico Arena, and Mayan Stadium from map rotation.
    • (Acapulco’s 2v2 variant will still be available in that mode!)
  • Added Pixel City, Arcadia, and Pinball Stadium to map rotation.

GAME BALANCING

MAGNETIC PASS

  • Fixed how players catching a Magnetic Pass could ‘teleport’ the ball through an open goal and not score.

This is one of several upcoming improvements to how the ball can sometimes be incorrectly caught (or not caught) in different situations. Expect others to make their way into Neo Retro’s mid-season patch!

TACKLES/DODGES

  • Adjusted the vertical trajectory of the ball after a successful Uppercut to better allow the tackler to recover possession.

We don’t necessarily want an automatic repossession on a successful tackle, to keep those nail-biting denials, but we’ll be looking at ways to improve defenders dependably being able to grab the ball after doing all the work of landing a tackle.

  • Removed the stagger effect when an Air Tackle collides with the ground.
  • Adjusted the Uppercut hitbox to better align with the player on vertical surfaces.

*More changes are planned for further ‘buffs’ to defenders in terms of Air Dodge and Dodge Dive hitbox sizes and are in production for a future update.
