Regista (Root Double) now an approved developer, ports and new games in the works

The Nintendo Switch is able to attract a lot of developers and publishers from all around the world, including some that have never (or rarely) gone anywhere near a Nintendo platform before (even the most successful ones, like the Nintendo DS). And it’s generally a successful endeavour, as seen with the great sales of Disgaea 5 or the many indie success stories. And last week, Regista announced they were also joining the Switch family.

If you’ve never heard of Regista before, it’s not too surprising: they’ve made a lot of Japan-only Visual novels / adventure games, and almost exclusively on PlayStation platforms (with the occasional Nintendo DS or Xbox 360 game here and there). For them to announce they were now approved Nintendo Switch developers is quite the shift for the company.

In their announcement tweet (no press release), Regista announce they have two kinds of projects in the works:

  • ports of existing games
  • new projects

In both cases, they don’t specify which games they’re working, or how many. For ports, we can expect their most popular titles to make it to the Nintendo Switch (such as Root Double). As for new games, it’s probably safe to expect multi-platform releases (as opposed to exclusives).

Hopefully, the first game announcement from Regista will come sooner rather than later!
