Pokémon Sun and Moon: over 10 million units shipped worldwide, starters trailers, more

Pokémon Sun and Moon isn’t even available (officially!), but it’s already breaking records. A few weeks ago, we learned from Tatsumi Kimishima that the special demo had already been downloaded over 3.5 million times (a record for a Nintendo 3DS game). Shortly after, Nintendo announced via Twitter that Pokémon Sun and Moon had become the most pre-sold game in Nintendo history.

But it’s not over! This morning, The Pokémon Company sent a press release to announce that the initial shipment for Pokémon Sun and Moon has  topped 10 million units: a record for the Pokémon series, but also for any Nintendo 3DS game. That’s a 150% increase compared to Pokémon X and Y, fueled by the 20th Anniversary of the series and the popularity of Pokémon GO.

Of course, that doesn’t mean Pokémon Sun and Moon will necessarily sell over 10 million units at launch, but it will not take long for that number to be reached. Nintendo should send a press release early next week with concrete sales data!

Speaking of Pokémon Sun and Moon, The Pokémon Company has uploaded special trailers for the starters:

  • Rowlet, Dartrix, and Decidueye

  • Litten, Torracat, Incineroar

The trailer for Popplio and its evolutions should be uploaded today!

If you live in the United States, and want to attend a midnight launch, GameStop stores will be holding one tonight. You can check out the full list of participating stores on Nintendo’s website!

Pokémon Sun and Moon (3DS) comes out on November 18th in Japan and North America, and November 23rd in Europe.
