Pokémon news (Sept. 8): Pokémon Sun and Moon (Prof. Oak) / Pokémon XY & Z (anime)

Today’s Pokémon news: Professor Oak’s cousin revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon, but also…

  • Pokémon XY & Z (anime series)

Pokémon Sun and Moon

Earlier today, The Pokémon Company revealed a brand new trailer for Pokémon Sun and Moon. In it, a new character can be seen for a second or two: he looks like the Alolan Form of Professor Oak, from Pokémon Red Version / Blue Version / Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition.

Naturally, it’s not an Alolan Form, but Professor Oak’s very own cousin. In Japanese, he’s known as Nariya Okido (Okido being the Japanese of Professor Oak), and The Pokémon Company just revealed its English name: Samson Oak.

samson-oakSamson Oak does research on the regional variants that have taken root in the Alola region. He’s a cousin of the Professor Oak—the famous authority on Pokémon research in the Kanto region. The two could practically be twins!

Pokémon XY & Z

Following today’s episode, TV Tokyo uploaded the preview for the next episode of the Pokémon XY & Z anime series. It will be a special 1-hour long episode, and at the end, a special announcement will be made. Naturally, it’s pretty easy to guess what this announcement is about: the new Pokémon anime series, for Pokémon Sun and Moon.

The next episode will air on September 15th, and it turns out the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine comes out on the same day. As you can imagine, it would be quite surprising for the magazine not to feature anything about the new Pokémon anime series. In other words, we should be getting the first details about it in the upcoming days, thanks to the usual leaks!

Of course, nothing is guaranteed for now, but in the mean time, here’s the preview for the next episode of Pokémon XY & Z:
