PikachanPokkén Tournament

Pokkén Tournament is already available on Wii U, but Bandai-Namco isn’t quite done with the Arcade version. Today, a brand new update was released, and adds:

  • Mewtwo as unlockable character (via a special event);
  • Pachirisu and Magikarp as Support Pokémon;
  • new titles;
  • new backgrounds for your Avatar;
  • new customisation items for your Avatar.

Also, a Ranking event started today, which allows you to unlock even more titles and a Happy Balloon background, along with the Pressure Focused Cheer Skill.

Darkrai distribution

Darkrai is this month’s Pokémon 20th Anniversary Pokémon, and you can now get it via a serial code. You can get a code at the following retailers:

YouTube

Yesterday, an official YouTube show for the Pokémon series was announced. It’s called Pika-Chan (Pikachu + Channel), and will be available on YouTube and on the Nintendo eShop (Wii U and Nintendo 3DS). The first two episodes will be available on May 11th and 18th, and following episodes will be released every other week.

The show will be be hosted by Shu Watanabe, Taku Sawaguchi (Tsukkie), and Tomu Takad (San-chan), and will focus on the Pokémon series as a whole. Here’s two of the segments for the show:

  • The Phantom Battle Guy: the mysterious battle guy (who is in fact played by Shu Watanabe himself) appears out of nowhere, in order to teach various battle-related things to the children (Tsukkie and San-chan)
  • Today’s Pokémon: a segment showcasing a specific episode, with facts and news.

Battle competition

Today, a new battle competition was announced, called the Johto Open. Here’s the rules:

  • Battles: Single Battles (up to 15 matches a day)
  • Pokémon allowed: any Pokémon from the Johto Pokédex (from #001 up to #251)
  • Pokémon banned: Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Celebi
  • Level: 50 (lowered if above)
  • Items banned: Mega Stone
  • Registration: from May 19th to May 26th
  • Battles: from May 27th to May 29th
  • Entry gift: TBA
