Nintendo Switch Online: Game Vouchers to be discontinued in January 2026 (Europe, Japan)

Game Vouchers is one of the perks available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. They allow you to buy first-party (and select third-party games published or distributed by Nintendo) at a discount: you buy a pair of vouchers for $99.98 (and equivalent in other currencies), and then you can redeem them for two of the many eligible games (which effectively cost you $49.99 each). Unfortunately, Nintendo has announced that Game Vouchers will be discontinued on January 30th 2026.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that players would not be able to use Game Vouchers to buy Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive titles. But today’s announcement confirms the fears of some, who saw in the exclusion of Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives a sign that Game Vouchers might be discontinued in the future.

After January 30th 2026 at 11.59PM local time, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will no longer be able to buy a new set of vouchers. However, vouchers already in their possession will remain available until the end of their validity period (which is up to 365 days after purchase).

So far, the announcement only applies to Europe and Japan, but it’s likely North America will get its own announcement later today. This post will be updated accordingly when it happens.

Quite interestingly, Nintendo specifies that even after Game Vouchers are discontinued, new games will still be added to the list of games that can be bought using said vouchers. It’s pretty safe to assume that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Rhythm Heaven Groove will be two such titles.
