Nintendo Switch: latest video gives us our first look at the Nintendo eShop, News feature

Thanks to official videos and those from various news outlets, we’ve already had a good look at the UI of the Nintendo Switch But there’s one thing we haven’t had the opportunity to see yet, because it requires a Day 1 update that isn’t available yet… the Nintendo eShop!

In the latest official video for the console, Nintendo finally give us our very first look at the Nintendo eShop of the Nintendo Switch. To the surprise of no one, the design of the Nintendo eShop is pretty much the same as the rest of the UI, so much that it feels like a part of the UI itself rather than a separate app.

The Nintendo eShop is accessible from the Home Menu, and that’s where you go to browse, buy, and download games (downloads that can be done while the system is in sleep mode, just like on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS). We can see the following options in the menu:

  • Search (you can apply filters such as price range and genre to find the game you want)
  • Recent releases
  • Coming soon
  • Enter code

Nintendo also reminds us that you can link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account, merge your funds that way, and then use said funds on all Nintendo devices (including the Nintendo Switch, obviously).

As for the News feature, it’s basically the Nintendo Switch version of the Notifications from the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. That being said, there’s a major difference: featured articles are shown on the screen when you start the console, or wake it from sleep mode. The News feature is also available from the Home menu.

Via that News feature, Nintendo will deliver the latest updates for Nintendo Switch games, with game news, trailers, behind the scenes info, and more. There will also be links to the Nintendo eShop in specific notifications, allowing you to directly go buy a game after reading about it going on sale for example.

Here’s the latest official video for the Nintendo Switch, introducing the Nintendo eShop and the News feature:

The Nintendo Switch comes out on March 3rd, worldwide.
