Nintendo news (Sept. 8): Nintendo Classic Mini Double Pack (Japan) / Yo-kai Watch Blasters

Today’s Nintendo news: Nintendo Classic Mini Double Pack releasing next week in Japan, but also…

  • Yo-kai Watch Blasters
  • Splatoon Koshien
  • Nintendo Minute
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Nintendo eShop
  • Frizzy’s Silly amiibo Theater

Nintendo Classic Mini Double Pack

Nintendo promised that new shipments for the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom would keep coming until the end of the year, which means that anyone interested in those should have no trouble getting hold of one. But it looks like in Japan, Nintendo is going to do more than just keep shipping additional units.

Next week (on September 15th), the Nintendo Classic Mini Double Pack will be released in Japan. It costs 15 077 Yen, and as the name implies, includes both the Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer and the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom. It also includes an AC Adapter (usually sold separately). Amazon offers a neat bonus: the original manual for Super Mario Bros. and F-Zero!

Here’s what the packaging looks like:

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like such a double pack is planned for Europe or North America…

Yo-kai Watch Blasters

Here’s not one, but two launch trailers for Yo-kai Watch Blasters, now available in Europe and North America:

Splatoon Koshien

The major earthquake that hit Hokkaido in Japan, earlier this week, not only had a deep impact on the lives of many Japanese people living in that region, but it also has had some “interesting” side-effects in the gaming space.

Not only did Nintendo postpone the latest Nintendo Direct presentation to an unspecified date on the very day it was supposed to air (causing some of the announcements to “leak”), but the company has also completely halted communications on its social media accounts in Japan (including the Super Smash Bros., Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Mario Run accounts). This was presumably done out of respect for the people impacted by the earthquake.

But that’s not all: the Splatoon Koshien tournament that was supposed to take place on September 16th has also been postponed, and there’s a good reason for that: it was the tournament for the Hokkaido region… But unlike Moltres Day in Pokémon GO, this tourney has not been cancelled: simply postponed. The new date will be shared at a later date, when things have finally settled down in the region.
