Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo no longer offering factory repairs for the original model

Do you have an OG Nintendo 3DS (the very first model, that was discontinued a few years ago in Europe and North America)? If you do, and happen to live in North America, you better take good care of it.

Indeed, a notice on the Support section of the official website indicates that Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the very first model (all the other ones, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS and New 3DS XL, are still being repaired).

Note About Original Nintendo 3DS Repairs: Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the original Nintendo 3DS system. Newer Nintendo 3DS family products (including the Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS) are still being repaired. If you aren’t sure which system you have, check the serial number on the back of your system. If the serial number begins with CW, you have an original Nintendo 3DS system

So, what happens if your system needs some repairing? Well, you can always bring it to a third-party shop for repairs, or quite simply buy a new one (used or new). Unfortunately, if the system is not useable anymore, you’re out of luck if you want to do a system transfer, since you need both the old and new systems to perform it.

We don’t know if the OG 3DS model is still being repaired in Europe. But in Japan, that particular model still hasn’t been discontinued (officially), so factory repairs are still available.

Thanks Game Memo for the heads up.
